OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 SLI-Ready Edition review - Testing setup, results

Now that we covered all the features we can get to the interesting part, and that?s the performance. We used our standard testbed consisting of the following components:

- EVGA nForce 680i SLI
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 cooled with Zalman 9500
- NVIDIA 7900GTX
- Corsair HX620W PSU
- WD RaptorX 150GB

Needless to say, the modules worked with EPP profile set to maximum overclock. The settings were, as stated on the box, DDR2-1066 5-5-5-15 at 2.1V. That?s a descent speed, but what we were really interested in was how these modules overclock. First we slowly increased the memory speed and just let to board try to post, the highest achievable speed was an amazing 1320MHz at 2.5V. Of course, at those speeds there was no talk about stability, but this is still an amazing result since we couldn?t get over 1280MHz with the strongest of Corsair?s Dominators. We slowly decreased the speed and checked the stability with memtest 3.2. Again, the results were astonishing and we stopped at DDR2-1262. We let memtest run for several hours and there were no errors. Compared to Corsair Dominator, this is an excellent result since Dominator was able to maintain stability at 1238MHz.
